Participants from outside the EU must possess a passport valid for at least 6 months after the end of the summer school. Please check your visa requirements. Upon request, we will send a personal invitation to summer school participants.


In Romania the official currency is the Romanian New Leu (RON). Exchange facilities are available at the airport, in hotels and at the exchange desks of banks and authorized money changers. Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted at ATMs, in hotels, restaurants and shops, but you should ask or look for the logo before ordering a service.


The official language of the summer school is English. No simultaneous translation will be available.


Romania’s climate is temperate, with warm/hot summers. At this time of the year (August 23rd – September 1st) in Predeal the average temperature is around 24-28°C during the day. It might rain occasionally. If visiting Bucharest, please keep in mind that the temperature is likely to be between 35-39°C during the day.


There is a small (up to 10 places) parking lot at the summer school venue.


It is customary to give a tip of 10% over the amount of the bill at restaurants and in taxis.


The time zone in Romania is Eastern European Time (UTC + 2 hours). Daylight saving time is used during the summer (Eastern European Summer Time = UTC + 3 hours).


The tap water quality in Romania is of high and consistent quality, which means that you can drink directly from the tap./Tap water is safe to drink, even though most people prefer bottled water.


Electricity is supplied at 230 V, 50 Hz. Round, European-style two-pin plugs are used (power plugs Type C and Type F), different from those used in some other countries, e.g. the USA, the UK and Japan. Appliances designed to operate on 110/120 Volts need a voltage converter and a plug adapter.


Smoking is prohibited in public buildings, public transport, taxis, buses and trains, as well as in the venue buildings (lecture rooms, hotel rooms, hallways etc.). Smokers are required to smoke outdoors.


The Organizing Committee cannot assume responsibility for injuries or losses occurring to persons or personal belongings during the conference. Participants are therefore advised to travel with a valid insurance package.
